SIV Course
The topography of the Garden Route does not support a comprehensive and safe SIV course, we therefore offer SIV courses in Austria, as part of our annual ‘Smile While You Scream Tour‘ alpine tour. These three-day courses take place in Achensee, over a fresh water lake, and we offer them in conjunction with our partners from Flugschule Achensee.
The aim of the course is for the pilot to feel the forces that each manoeuvre generates, the philosophy being that if you feel and understand what your glider is doing, you will be able to recognise this and take the necessary pre-emptive action. The location provides easy cable access to take off 1200 metres above the fresh water lake, meaning there is no need to gain height before manoeuvres are performed, the air is still, and there will be no salt-water damage to your glider when reserve deployments are carried out.
During this DHV registered course:
- participants are issued with life jackets and water proof radios;
- a fully manned rescue boat is on standby; and
- a professional video crew records manoeuvres for later review.
